Proven Ways To Increace Business With Mobile Marketing | Eric - First

What do you know about mobile marketing? Have you set up a marketing plan? If you have a plan in place already, are you looking to improve it? Is your current strategy working effectively for your business, or is it hindering progress? Are you using your mobile marketing plan to your advantage? If reading these questions make you question yourself, you definitely need to read further.

You always have the option of sharing apps with your customers, but were you aware that you can create the majority of these applications yourself? Improve your marketing strategy by offering a special app for your customers only. You are merely limited by imagination, as there are a lot of items you can include in your app.

Always strive to create advertisements that have the potential to go viral, thereby maximizing their effectiveness. They will probably tell a friend or two, which will greatly increase the effect of your mobile marketing campaign.

TIP! Run a usability test before you go live with your campaign. You have to make sure that your customers will be able to view the content that you are sending them.

Your home base is the main element of your campaign. If you have a mobile presence, it should be a way to stay in contact with current home based clients. A mobile platform should just be one part of your entire business.

Utilize an A/B testing process on the homepage of your mobile site. This can help you understand what your visitors may be having trouble using or understanding. Create two different landing pages (A&B) to see which is more effective for conversions. Use the more successful page.

Market your events through several channels to increase attendance. For example, use a direct mail campaign to inform customers of an upcoming sale. You can email your customers beforehand, then an hour before the event send them a reminder by text.

TIP! Make your mobile marketing advertisements easy to share, and they will be shared. Anytime you build a mobile promotion, ensure that they are easy to pass on to others for further advertising.

If your site is mobile friendly, make sure it includes a great map to your location. It has become a standard trend for individuals to use their cell phone to find directions to where they are going. Try to make it as easy as possible for your customers to find you. Make sure your maps look good on mobile devices and show up well when you do a mobile search. Create a link to take users directly to Google Maps to get directions.

Never forfeit quality for speed in your marketing efforts. Always present polished material that is relevant to your audience. In your zealousness to implement the latest mobile technologies, don?t forget your business is at stake. Be thoughtful about your use of this potent new marketing tool. Provide information that can help your customers and potential new customers. If it is relevant, they?ll give you business.

Be sensitive to customers sleeping hours when sending out text notifications. Customers will be unlikely to buy your product, even if they like it, if you have bothered them at odd hours of the day.

TIP! You should get as much data as you can about your target audience with mobile marketing. This is how you can help to cater your message to your target?s tastes.

When creating a mobile marketing campaign you must focus on keeping your existing customers as opposed to gaining new clients. The relationships you have already built will likely be more receptive to your mobile marketing updates than new customers. Mobile marketing used for new consumers is often regarded as spam.

Start by building a good database. Use ethical techniques when adding numbers to your database. You really need to get their permission before starting. This can be done either with a Web form or having the person text you with a given short code you gave them.

TIP! Wait until the results are in on your first mobile marketing campaign before you cook up a second one. In this case, you should measure your campaign?s success by its longevity and not the number of sales it produces.

Location is the key to effective mobile marketing. Your customers will have their mobiles with them at all times and know where you are thanks to this type of marketing. With mobile marketing, no customer is out of your reach. Figure out how to exploit this location-targeting strategy for your company.

Let your clients give feedback through your site. This builds up relationships with the customers. Customer input is valuable, regardless of whether it?s positive or negative. You should seek out customer feedback at every opportunity.

To get the results you are looking for, you will need to give your customers an incentive. Offer users incentives that will rationalize your mobile marketing efforts. Incentives do not necessarily have to be a cash reward, they can be things such as local weather alerts or event information. Coupons are a great way to encourage participation and improve the number of people who sign up for your campaign.

TIP! Mobile friendly maps are a wonderful way to help ensure you are doing what you can to attract the local customers. Easy accessibility can be the extra push that makes a customer in the vicinity choose your business over competitors.

A mobile call for action must be capitalized through promotion. Facebook, Twitter and your own website are popular choices for mobile marketing, but don?t forget to do promotions in your physical store location, if there is one, This will give your campaign maximum exposure, and allow your fans plenty of opportunities to sign up for your offers.

It?s important to take into account that mobile device users who are viewing your website are not going to be able navigate as easily as computer users. Keep your mobile campaign uncomplicated. This might make it appear simple if you?re using a computer, but the format will be ideal for mobile devices.

If you use voice calls as part of your strategy, you should remember to respect the human element and use a personable, friendly approach. Take this into account.

TIP! Quick Response or ?QR? codes consist of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background, and they work well as a means for expanding your brand and enticing customers to access your content. They are a method of getting discounts and coupons out to your customers.

Are you more informed when it comes to mobile marketing? Do you have a new plan or a better plan now? Can you now use things that work with your business? Do you know how to properly apply your plan? With any luck, the tips above should have created better answers.

Home sweet home: nesting in the White House

Reagan Presidential Library

President and Nancy Reagan sometimes ate on TV trays in the White House residence.

By Mary Boone, Zillow

Leading a nation is tough work. When the president of the United States goes to his private residence at the end of the day, he undoubtedly yearns for the comforts of ?home.? But what does that home look like?

The second floor of the White House is the first family?s residence, where their bedrooms and private sitting rooms are located. This level has 16 rooms?? including the Lincoln bedroom?? one main corridor and six bathrooms. Every first family undertakes minor redecorating and restoration work when they move into the White House.

Privacy preferences
Some presidents have been less private than others when it comes to the private residence. The Clintons, for example, hosted official events there, and first lady Laura Bush allowed documentary crews to film her White House home.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, on the other hand, have worked to ensure the family space is for family only. Journalist Jodi Kantor, whose book "The Obamas" was released in August, has been in the White House dozens of times but has never been to the family?s private quarters.

?I can?t even name a journalist who has ever been up there under the Obama watch,? she told Chicago Magazine. ?The Obama attitude with the private quarters is, ?This is Sasha and Malia?s home.? ?

What is known about the Obamas' D.C. home is that they entrusted its d?cor to California-based interior designer Michael S. Smith, whose celebrity clients include Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman and Rupert Murdoch. Smith has remained tight-lipped about the Obamas' specific style, noting only that ?the couple?s interest in bringing 20th-century American artists to the forefront and utilizing affordable brands and products? would serve as his work?s guiding principles.

Jimmy Carter Library

President Jimmy Carter watches his daughter, Amy, and grandson, Jason, play in Amy's tree house on the South Lawn.

While no formal pictures of the rooms in the private quarters have been released in the past four years, much is known about changes the Obamas have made on the White House grounds. Michelle Obama?s kitchen garden has been widely publicized, and first daughters Malia and Sasha are enjoying a wooden swing set?? complete with tree house, tire swing and climbing wall?? installed for them on the South Lawn.

Presidential administrations have all left their marks on the White House. Some of the most notable updates thorough the years:

Presidential pool
In 1933, citizens raised money to build a White House swimming pool for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who suffered from the crippling disease poliomyelitis.

Roosevelt used the pool, located inside the west gallery between the White House and the West Wing, multiple times each day. In later years, President Harry Truman swam in it frequently. President John F. Kennedy liked the pool so much that he made a habit of stopping by at lunch, stripping down for a swim and sneaking back to his private quarters for a nap wearing nothing but a robe.

In 1970, the increasing demand for TV news coverage created the need for a media workspace within the White House. President Richard Nixon had the pool filled in and ordered the construction of a press room in its place.

With no indoor pool available, President Gerald Ford decided to have an in-ground pool constructed on the White House grounds in 1975; he swam daily when in town, and his son, Jack, took scuba lessons in the pool. President Jimmy Carter?s young daughter Amy and first lady Barbara Bush both used the pool on a regular basis.

Pitch perfect
President Truman created a horseshoe pitch just off the Oval Office, but it was later removed. President George H.W. Bush had a new one constructed near the White House swimming pool. He introduced several world leaders to the sport, including Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Bowling and golf
Bowling lanes were first built in the ground floor of the West Wing as a birthday gift for President Truman in 1947. Truman didn't care for bowling himself but allowed his staff to start a league. These were moved to the Old Executive Office Building in 1955 to make way for a mimeograph room.

In 1969, President and Mrs. Nixon, both avid bowlers, had a new one-lane alley built in an underground work space area below the driveway leading to the North Portico.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower had a putting green installed at the White House in 1954. President Bill Clinton had the putting green moved to its present location, just outside the Oval Office door, in 1995. The two greens have been well-used over the years, helping to perfect the putts of Presidents Ford, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Obama.

Getting the runaround
President Clinton had a running track installed on the South Lawn of the White House. Much to the dismay of the Secret Service, Clinton preferred jogging around the streets of Washington, D.C. ? often disrupting traffic ? rather than running on the secure White House path. The track has since been removed.

Child?s play
The Obamas aren?t the first presidential parents who?ve added White House play structures for the benefit of their children. First lady Jacqueline Kennedy had a trampoline built into the ground so that Caroline and John Jr. were not visible to pedestrians as the pair bounced into the air. President Carter helped design and build a tree house for daughter Amy on the White House grounds.

Project Management and Change Management Go Hand in Hand ...

Statistically, both project management and change management effort have 70%+ of failure rate, it also causes many provocative debates on how to manage them more smoothly, such as: How do you view the disciplines of change management and project management? Complimentary, Redundant, or Conflicting?

  1. Project Management (PM) & Change Management (CM) are Two Sides of Coin

?

Without surprise, most industry experts think PM and CM are complimentary with each other; PM without CM, is one of the key reasons why so many projects have failed and why so many organizations have not embraced project management in their culture and operations. The lack of CM, as brought skepticism to organizations as business rarely? able to quantity the benefits originally stated in the Business Case ? which is where Change Management comes in. This is not the only reason though; there are a few more as important such as leadership, strategy., etc.?
  • CM means a lot of things: Change Management is the discipline of assessing for, planning, and mitigating risk. If you mean Change/Release/Validation processes, then they would seem to be a natural extension of a project; if you mean Human and Organizational Change Management, then, that too would seem to be a natural result of every project - the point of all projects and all system is change;

  • PM & CM are Two Sides of Coin: A properly designed and implemented CM & PM system are a "must have"; Change management and project management are two sides of the same coin. Either one without the other, results in an incomplete transaction.?Change Management is one of many components of a project, and they go hand-in-hand. Projects follow change management processes and adhere to the policies in order to implement required design, new, and/or changing implementations.?
  • CM and PM are complimentary Ying & Yang. The interaction of these two objects causes everything to happen in any project environment. Furthermore, the size of the organization will influence the level of debate. In large enterprises, change management has a purpose in assuring that operation of the business is not disrupted by a single change, or a few changes. Project Management is a plan to make changes; and to destabilize the current situation. In a large enterprise,? PM should (must) account for operational readiness, yet there are so many changes, that CM is required to funnel and manage a large number of changes to the operation. In a small business and many medium size businesses, there are fewer operational elements, systems, or players, so that PM and CM tend to blend together into project management.
  • CM is Subset of PM, or PM is Subset of CM, Many PMs don't consider CM as part of PM, but without a doubt if you neglect Change Management you are at risk at having a failed project, especially if it affects users. On the other hand, some think PM is a discipline within Change Management, other components include Stakeholder Management and Communications Management. So PM is a subset of CM.
  • People are Key in CM: Change management that addresses the 'people change' aspects of a project is more important than ANY 'really cool' technology deployment.
  • Best Practice: Both should work complementary for each project, a change from the as-is situation will move to a "to-be" situation. In practice, you can map "Kotter" (8-step Change) with Project Management. Big projects typically fail because "change" is not taken seriously. Change management practices are supportive of project management. They aid in control of "feature creep" and help to maintain scope and deliverable stability across the project lifecycle.
  • Some Argument: Change Management can exist without Project Management, but Project Management cannot exist without Change Management. But if we think Project Management is beyond managing IT or software project only, treat Change Management itself as project, such as culture change, it may also need the set of change principles to sustain the changes. ?

  1. Change Management is the necessary pre- and post-requisite to Project Management.

?

Change Management is the necessary pre- and post-requisite to Project Management. If a project is not changing something, then why do it?
  • PM should integrate with CM into the project planning. Make sure the business understands this, and that it is built into each of the plans and estimates. If it needs to be modified, then manage it under Risk Management. Changes in scope are inevitable on any project. In dealing with them effectively, Change management and Project management go hand in hand.
  • Change managers must select an appropriate project management process. At least they need two stages, plan and implement; Change management is the most important part of the overall project. This may be the physical, technical and is always the psychological/cultural changes that are required when any change is made in a business of those who will be at all affected from the results of the project.?.?
  • Complimentary/intricately linked. The change management process should initiate project management and complete with the scheduling change. A robust change/project management process will ensure proper design, acceptance criteria etc.,?
  • Ensure your projects don?t cannibalize testing, user training and learning: mandate comprehensive testing, extremely well resourced, continuously available training and learning, then the change will happen.
  • Consistency A well designed CM & PM system will ensure consistency in the use of established processes, ensure compliance with agreed policies and enable all reporting required for management of KPIs, SLAs and other audit related issues.?
  • From Good Project Manager to Great Influencer: No matter how well the project manager managed the project, came in under budget or time, she/he may not have achieved the cultural change required to adopt any changes in process or operation that the project was all about implementing. She/he may in fact be a great manager of a project team, but not a good influencer of people to embrace change after the project is implemented.

  1. Change management is core discipline and strategic Policy in Project Management

  • Project Leadership Discipline: Leadership must work hand-in-glove with PM throughout the project life cycle to ensure all the necessary elements of success are in place; and intervene if/when they are not, it's because creating and sustaining change is a leadership responsibility requiring strong governance /sponsorship on both the IT and business side; PMs define & implement the mechanics of the change while Leadership must create the need/culture for change (Executive support, alignment, incentives, understanding, communication, policies & procedures, etc.) which ensure the success of the project.?
  • Change management is one of the core disciplines which helps ensure an IT project is "ready" to go live in production. A mature project readiness review process will include several system management control points. However, change Management is often overlooked and done poorly. An hour or two of training and then someone "checks off" change management. Successful CM requires high level consulting and people skills and every situation is different. PM has some specific disciplines. But do not confuse Project Tracking and resource management with true PM.
  • CM is a strategic policy, PM is tactical for project managers: Project Management gets you from A to B. Change Management ensures that while getting to B the business does not experience negative impact.
  • CM is everyone's responsibility. Change management is often done poorly, and left to what would be better-described as a training team., and should never be delegated to "B team" players who spend their time creating documents rather than talking to stakeholders which also requires a lot of skills to be effectives.
  • CM as Discipline to Continuous Improvement: Change management is one of many disciplines needed to deliver business transformation, or business improvement, or a program/project. Change Management could happen in an operational setting where the CM task becomes the project. Project management includes an embedded CM component. CM + PM ++ = Continuous Improvement
  • CM as Communication Guideline: Project management is focused on internal/project resources and change management is focused on stakeholders external to the project team. Software Projects are done to automate processes among other reasons, the project needs change management to ensure completion within time and budget. Once developed, the change has to be effectively communicated within the organization and that?s the real role for change management. Many times, change management is the most important, least cared field, since it is seen as a soft discipline in a world of engineers.
  • CM like GPS: Act in current operations or processes, introduction of more progressive ways of achieving the same result, normally for increased efficiency or added value. All these need a vehicle to arrive at the desired point. CM like GPS, smoothes the way providing the route to understanding, acceptance and adoption. Most definitely complimentary.

?Therefore, the very nature of project management must incorporate change management elements. Change management similarly must consider project management principles in its implementation

96% Argo

All Critics (203) | Top Critics (43) | Fresh (194) | Rotten (9)

'Argo' is one of the best movies of the year.

Argo has that solid, kick-the-tires feel of those studio films from the 70s that were about something but also entertained. Only it's as laugh outright amusing as it is sobering.

The movieland satire is laid on thick, but it's also deadly accurate. Schlock has never seemed so patriotic, and Arkin and Goodman have rarely been so good.

Argo is a rollicking yarn, easily the most cohesive and technically accomplished of Affleck's three films so far, but a part of me wishes the director hadn't cast himself in the lead role.

If nothing else, it proves that every so often, the CIA can pull something off - and that yes, Canadians are just about the nicest people on the planet.

The film is a whopper of a tale, one designed for Oscar nominations, Best Picture and Best Director among them.

It's a reminder of what the movies can offer when they're at their best: an escape into another world and a pertinent look at our own.

As a director, Ben Affleck is getting into Alan Pakula territory.

Even when it embellishes certain details leading up to its climax, Affleck and his actors by that time have sold the audience on its authenticity. How appropriate.

I found it hard for me to get into at first, but the final act more than makes up for it. Ben Affleck sure has come a long way since his days with Kevin Smith.

It's exciting, it's funny, it's suspenseful. The ending is nail-biting.

This is a classy heist movie with a bizarre set-up; it's entertaining as well as thrilling.

A tense political thriller with a dash of Hollywood satire thrown in to sweeten the deal, this is a gripping crowd pleaser that is sure to take home some statuettes come Oscar season. Your move, Matt Damon.

The real Argo that's landing in cinemas now shouldn't be mistaken as anything other than a spellbinding, old-fashioned thriller. I've got sweaty palms and an elevated pulse to prove that it's one of the year's very best films.

A suspenseful, topical and surprisingly humorous film that's deserving of the Oscar buzz surrounding it.

The only real criticism, surprisingly, is Affleck. Perhaps the time has come to think about spending more time behind the camera rather than in front of it.

...incredibly entertaining, lucid crowd pleaser. I'm [annoyed] that people may hear the synopsis and go 'Oh, that's not my thing', because Argo is everyone's thing: it's one of the year's best films.

Its politics are subtle, its performances are good, and its script is amazing.

There's "creating an intense, claustrophobic situation in a foreign locale" and there's "inciting unquestioning fear of 'the other'," and Argo pulls off the former far more often than it accidentally achieves the latter.

An ingeniously conceived thriller that's almost as much about our collective love of cinema as it is a tricky international incident.

Suspenseful movie based on a true incident; Ben Affleck's stock rises as an actor and director.

It not only confirms Affleck as one of the few A-listers to have made a credible transition to behind the camera, but that he's one of the most exciting mainstream directors around, full stop.

Affleck's seamless melding of intense thrills in Tehran and biting humour in California makes for a wholly satisfying movie.

The use of dramatic licence in the finale is too obvious but aside, Argo is a solid dramatic thriller that is informative, entertaining and gripping.

The film has heart and brains as well as balls, the screenplay delivering a clear and strong story without sacrificing either political or personal context

As a real life human drama, it is extraordinary. As a thrilling movie experience, it is unmissable

Gloved-up Hong Kong city slickers fight "mid-life crisis"

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Adam Gazal trained for six months to stand in the ring for six minutes of live boxing. He remembers the noise, and not much else, and said he'd like to try it again, though he realizes that the time in the gym took time away from home.

"I think my wife will divorce me if I go through another six months of training," Gazal, 35, said after the fight.

The managing partner of National Australia Bank was one of 14 contenders who took part in Hong Kong's sixth annual IronMonger Hedge Fund Fight Night, a fundraising event that is now a staple of the city's financial community.

Attended by 550 people, Thursday night's event raised just over HK$500,000 ($64,500), nearly matching last year's total. Proceeds go to children's charities Operation Breakthrough and Operation Smile.

Gazal, who fought his pal Grant Livingston, 35, an executive director at JPMorgan with a long reach and quick jab, won by a unanimous decision. In a pre-match video aired before Gazal and Livingston's fight, "mid-life crisis" was among the reasons given for wanting to take on the six-month challenge.

A survey of the crowd found more bankers than hedgies in attendance, perhaps a sign of the industry's struggles in the region. Asian-focused hedge funds as measured by the Eurekahedge index rose 3.8 percent through September this year, falling short of a 7 percent rise in the MSCI Asia index. At least 73 Asia hedge funds have shut down this year.

The city's bankers and financiers aren't faring much better, though the sector's woes failed to impact attendance. At more than HK$2,000 ($260) a seat, the black-tie crowd filled every chair inside the makeshift boxing tent.

American Anthony Carango, 40, an executive director at Nomura Holdings, had a focused plan going into his match - a plan that he said "went out the window" as soon as the bell rang.

Carango, who squared off against Craig Barnish, 30, a managing director at BAH Partners Ltd, said it came back to him occasionally - "head, body, head, body" - enough to allow him a unanimous-decision victory.

HSBC fielded three fighters on the night. Richard Rouse, an account manager at the bank, held steady in his match against Andrew Wylde, head of sales and operations at Hatstand consultancy. Wylde, 28, fought hard, needing to stop twice to mend a bloody face, but Rouse held on to win.

Blair Crichton, an assistant vice president of HSBC, and Brad Moreland, a director of prime services at the bank, each won their matches, pulling off a clean sweep. Crichton defeated Stephen Taw, a director at South Ocean Management Ltd, while Moreland won against 36-year-old Frenchman Nicolas Boulay, a derivatives broker at Louis Capital.

"As the fight goes on, you get tired, you tend to lose form, which was obvious," said Boulay, who noted his strong crowd support from friends and clients.

Danielle Midalia, 30, a creative manager at Operation Smile, defeated Andrea Glynn, 28, an associate at the Bank of Montreal, in the night's only female match-up.

Mark O'Reilly, 36, a managing director at Astbury Marsden, lost to 29-year-old George Radford, a consultant at IP Global.

Mark's wife Ashley said she hopes he keeps his fitness level maintained, but that may be a tall order.

"He says after it's all over, he's going to eat a lot of pies and sit on the couch," she said.

Taw, 53, was the eldest boxer and crowd favorite, known as the "Wizard of Wanchai". With grey hair protruding from his red headgear, he went down in the first of three rounds, then held tough throughout.

"My strategy was simple: do not get hit in the face," he said, a strategy that quickly fell apart. Standing near the ring in his boxing outfit after the fight and holding two glasses of beer, Taw reflected on his performance.

"I think I won the third round," said Taw, his face now cleared of blood. "But I didn't land my jabs."

The conference features child sex abuse survivors Sugar Ray Leonard, a former world boxing champion, and?Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted in 2002 and held captive for nine months.

Starting on Sunday, it comes just weeks after Sandusky, a former?Penn State?assistant football coach, was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for molesting 10 boys over more than a decade.

An independent commission by former FBI chief?Louis Freeh?concluded that university officials were alerted to Sandusky's abuse, did nothing to stop it and decided against reporting it to authorities.

In a rebuke to the school's failure to stop Sandusky's abuse, the NCAA, the governing body of U.S. college sports, fined?Penn State?$60 million and voided 14 seasons of football victories.
